John
Myers joined Star Racing (now Star Performance Parts)
in 1989. He set the national elapsed time (e.t.)
record at Houston Raceway Park. It was broken in the
next round but Myers had shown that this new combo
was going to be a powerful one. Myers went on to win
the prestigious U.S. Nationals in his rookie season
as well as the Winston Finals.
In
his rookie season, Myers finished second in the
season-long battle for the championship. Second has
been the lowest he has finished every year since
becoming part of Star Racing.
Myers
won the first of three championships in 1990 as he
put together a remarkable season, posting a winning
percent of 90. Myers was 27-3 during the year, set
the national elapsed time record and lowered the
track record at all eight venues.
In
1991, he finished second in the NHRA Winston point
standings despite a late-season charge that saw Myers
win three of the last five events. During this hot
streak, he once again set the national elapsed time
record with a run of 7.61 seconds. This record stood
for two years.
In
1992, Myers won his second championship, with nine
final round appearances in 10 races. He won five
races and was the NO. 1 qualifier five times.
In
1995, Myers captured his third Winston championship.
During this remarkable season, Myers also won the Wax
Shop Pro Bike Dash for the fourth straight year and
became the first Pro Stock Motorcycle rider in NHRA
history to run a quarter mile in less than 7.5
seconds.

I want to apologize
to everyone and especially to Kerry for not having
something on the Star Racing Team web page until
today but we left Salt Lake City this morning around
2:30 and just got in. I had no way to work on the web
page during the last week.
I was
shocked Tuesday morning when I read about John in USA
Today while sitting in the lobby of the lodge where
we stayed. I immediately called Jackie and she
confirmed the story. I am 52 years old and not too
proud to tell you that my eyes got all watered-up and
I had a sharp pain in the pit of my stomach. It was
not just that I would miss John but rather that he
would be missed even more by his family and those who
had known him longer than I.
Our
hearts and prayers go out to his family and all his
close friends.
