Larry
“Spiderman” McBride to chase speed with TV coverage
Team
Spiderman will run the 2004 eight race events for the AMA Prostar
Series starting with MRE Nationals at Gainesville Raceway at
Gainesville, Fla., on March 6-7. EPSN2 and The Outdoor Channel will
be there to record race results throughout the season and Larry
“Spiderman” McBride’s enthusiasm is sure to be in the camera focus.
“I think it’s a major step in the right direction,” McBride said. “I
feel really good about it. It’s the first time we have a definite
TV deal in my whole career.”
The five-time AMA Prostar champion was upbeat when
asked about the new season. “My plans are to run the AMA Prostar
Series and we’re going to concentrate on that and try to put
together another championship, I hope,” McBride said. “I’m looking
forward to a great 2004. We’ve got some Europeans coming over for a
few races and one has run a 6.04. That’s going to be interesting.
Ron Webb and Chris Hand are running well. The big guns are coming
after me.”
Crew
chief Steve McBride shares his brother’s enthusiasm. “The
competition level is going to be there and we gotta be ready,” Steve
McBride said. “I’m just buried in work trying to get ready. I’m
making some clutch flow management pieces for a couple of guys and
some fuel management stuff. The whole field this year is going to
perk everybody up. “
The
Spiderman has the length and the strength to muscle this champion
bike. The Spider team is determined to take this bike with its own
attitude for virgin speed to the next horizon. “I’m rollin’,” Larry
“Spiderman” McBride said.

Larry 'Spiderman' McBride…Team effort, Team wins
Four-time champion Larry "Spiderman" McBride and team didn't have to
travel far to collect wins recently at the AMA Prostar event at Virginia
Motorsports Park. McBride, the Newport News, Va., resident packed up
his team for a short trip to Richmond, and produced even shorter trips
down the track to add wins for the championship aboard their Top Fuel
Kawasaki motorcycle. The Spiderman team won the inclusive Atlanta event
and the VMP event as well. The speedy team has added a new brain to
their smart squad.
Keith Adams, Top Fuel dragster technician, is now consulting with the
Spiderman team on fuel system, clutch, and timing management. "Keith is
an all-out drag racer," crew chief Steve McBride said. "He's made a lot
of laps down the track with Bernstein and Alan Johnson. Keith is
interpreting the computer and showing me stuff I didn't know. We all
learned bunch this race, all three of us. We found stuff and that's
exciting."
First qualifying pass… 6.04 @ 197 mph
"It was a shut off pass," Larry McBride said. "I've got the belt marks
to prove it. My arm was every color of purple you can image, but for a
second year in a row we had a phenomenal weekend…absolutely phenomenal."
Second qualifying pass … 5.98 @ 243.37 mph
First elimination pass… 5.880 @218 mp (Fastest ET ever, sadly no
back up)
Second elimination pass…5.98 @ 243 mph
Third elimination pass… 6.58 @ 154 mph
"The bike went crooked and I had to shut it off," McBride said. "It's
always better to come back the next race and make another run."
"Great products get great results." McBride said." Pingel, Drag
Specialties, Trim-Tex, Red Line Oil. We expect parts breakage. When
you run that hard, you're going to break parts. Ron Webb was right
there, the weather cool, the track good, a great weekend. I couldn't do
it without everybody and I appreciate them. We look forward to St.Louis."
