Brooks takes the Cadet Win

 

            After having a wonderful Thanksgiving, drivers and their crew were ready to practice at Cochran Motor Speedway on Thursday. The National Late Model series also came to race at the Turkey Shootout.

            Then on Friday November 25, there were heat races in pure stock, cadet, and road warrior and the super street and late model were qualified. The pure stock heat race winners were #83- Karl Willard, #38- Eric Register, and #15- Jimmy Grantham. Cadet heat race winners were #64- Keith Brooks, #41- Lanny Cross, and #25- Jottie Burgamy. The road warrior heat race winners were #7- Billy Nipper and #297- Dubyne Sharpe.

 

            Super street was the first race of the night on Saturday November 26. #86- Stevie Jones was the pole sitter and #110- Ricky Culpepper was the outside pole sitter. #86- Stevie Jones quickly took the lead and held it the entire race. As the checkered flag flew for the first time of the night #86- Stevie Jones was the winner followed by #17- Allen Rowland in second, #110- Ricky Culpepper in third, #107- Chaz Haskins in forth, and #11- John Shepherd in fifth.

 

            Pure stock was the second division to take the track. #83- Karl Willard was the pole sitter with #38- Eric Register was the outside. #83- Karl Willard took the lead followed by #15- Jimmy Grantham and #X- Robert Etheridge. #15- Jimmy Grantham then took the lead from #83- Karl Willard. As the checkered flag flew #15- Jimmy Grantham took the win followed by #X- Robert Etheridge in second, #83- Karl Willard in third, #5- Mark Spivey in forth, and #8- Regie Jones in fifth. 

 

            Cadet was the third division to race with #64- Keith Brooks on the pole and #41- Lanny Cross on the outside. #64- Keith Brooks took the lead and began to pull away until there was a full straightaway between him and #41- Lanny Cross. #2- Steve Garnto made his way from forth to second. #64- Keith Brooks was the winner followed by  #2- Steve Garnto in second, #41- Lanny Cross in third, #5- Justin Sapp in forth, and #8- Shannon Stapleton in fifth.

 

            The late model series was the next group to race. #5- Wiley McDaniel was the fastest qualifier and #00- Stevie Jones was the second fastest qualifier. #5- Wiley McDaniel took the lead followed by #00- Stevie Jones and #11- Stacy Roberts. As the checkered flag waved #5- Wiley McDaniel was the winner followed by #00- Stevie Jones in second, #12- Mitchell Meeks in third, #1N- Jordy Nipper in forth, and #07- Ivedent Lord in fifth.

 

            The last race of the night was the road warrior division. #7- Billy Nipper was the pole sitter and #297- Dubyne Sharpe was on the outside. #7- Billy Nipper took the lead and led the entire race #7- Billy Nipper was the winner followed by #2- Steve Garnto in second, #99- Ritchie Griffin in third, #89- Tim Blizzard in forth, and #53- Lonnie Horne in fifth.

#107- Chaz Haskins takes his second win

        #5- Harold Etheridge was the pole sitter with #96- Scott Smith on the outside of the pure stock race. As soon as the green flag was waved car were three wide going in turn three. #5- Harold Etheridge took the lead followed by #67- Darryl Dunn and #X- Robert Etheridge. #67- Darryl Dunn and #83- Karl Willard were side by side going into turns three and four in a battle for second. As the checkered flag flew #5- Harold Etheridge was the winner followed by #83- Karl Willard in second, #67- Darryl Dunn in third, #21- Cory Compton in forth, and #33- Sean Cloud in fifth.

 

Super Street was the second division to race #107- Chaz Haskins was the pole sitter with #27- Eric Baggett on the outside. #107- Chaz Haskins took the lead at the drop of the green flag followed by #27- Eric Baggett and #93- Dustin Newell. #86- Stevie Jones made his way to the third after starting in the rear due to winning two races in a row. #107- Chaz Haskins took his second win followed by #03- Chuck Williams finishing second, #86- Stevie Jones finishing third, #93- Dustin Newell finishing forth, and #88- Robert E. Lord finishing fifth.

 

The third race of the night was the cadet division. #2- Steve Garnto was the pole sitter with #64- Keith Brooks on the outside. #64- Keith Brooks took the lead but a caution was caused before a lap was completed. After several restarts #64- Keith Brooks was the leader with #5- Karl Willard in second and #7- Joe Cartwright and #14- Dustin Miller bumper to bumper and side by side for third. On the last lap #7- Joe Cartwright and #14- Dustin Miller went off the top of turns three and four. As the checkered flag flew #64- Keith Brooks took the win for the second week in a row, followed by #5- Karl Willard in second, #7- Joe Cartwright in third, #66- Chris Casteel in forth, and #5- Justin Sapp in fifth.

 

        Late model was the next division to race. #L1- Billy Lyles was the fastest qualifier and #49- Skip Pinnell was the second fastest qualifier. #L1- Billy Lyles took the lead followed by #C2- Cale Simons and #49- Skip Pinnell. Other than a few restarts it was almost a follow the leader race. As the checkered flag flew #L1- Billy Lyles was the winner followed by #C2- Cale Simon was second, #49- Skip Pinnell was third, #88- Butch Henry was forth, and #17- Jimmy Grantham was fifth.

 

  The last race of the night was the road warrior division. #89- Tim Blizzard was the pole sitter with #2- Steve Garnto on the outside. #71- JD Wiley took the lead with #2- Steve Garnto in second, and #1- Fate Carroll in third. #83- Ryan Evan was the winner followed by #2- Steve Garnto in second, and #89- Tim Blizzard in third. #2- Steve Garnto protested #83- Ryan Evans. #83- Ryan Evans was disqualified for having an illegal cam.

Oct 29 will be regular racing in all divisions.

Regie Jones Takes the Pure Stock Win

          The first race of the night was the pure stock division. #8- Regie Jones was the pole sitter with #41- Joe Cartwright on the outside. On the first start #41- Joe Cartwright took the lead followed by #8- Regie Jones and #9- Charles Benson. #8- Regie Jones had the lead when #X- Robert Etheridge passed #9- Charles Benson for second. As they took the checkered flag #8- Regie Jones was the winner followed by #X- Robert Etheridge in second, #41- Joe Cartwright in third, #17- Don Guy in forth, and #9- Charles Benson in fifth.

            The next race was the super street division. #86- Stevie Jones was on the pole with #15- Regie Jones on the outside. #86- Stevie Jones took the lead with #17- Allen Rowland in second.#11- John Shepherd and #4- Wayne Bradley were bumper to bumper in a battle for third. As the checkered flag flew #86- Stevie Jones was the winner for the second week in a row. #17- Allen Rowland finished second, #11- John Shepherd finished third, #91- Jeff Norrell finished forth, and #27- Eric Baggett finished fifth.

          Late model was the next division to go onto the track. #5- Wiley McDaniel was the fastest qualifier and #X- Jimmy Sharpe was the second fastest qualifier. #5- Wiley McDaniel took the lead at the drop of the green flag. #X- Jimmy Sharpe did not hesitate to fall into second position. As the checkered flag was dropped #5- Wiley McDaniel took the win with #X- Jimmy Sharpe in second, #23- Mitchell Meeks in third, #17- Jimmy Grantham in forth, and #18- Keith Edge in fifth.

          The next division to race was the cadet division. #64- Keith Brooks was the pole sitter and young gun #14- Dustin Miller was on the outside.#64- Keith Brooks took the lead followed by #14- Dustin Miller, #5- Justin Sapp, and #15- Mitch Fulford. #41- Lanny Cross passed #15- Mitch Fulford to take forth position. #64- Keith Brooks took the win as the checkered flag was waved followed by #14- Dustin Miller in second, #5- Justin Sapp in third, #41- Lanny Cross in forth, and #16- Stewart Smith in fifth.

          The last race of the night was the road warrior division. #99- Dennis Blizzard was the pole sitter with #89- Tim Blizzard on the outside. #99- Dennis Blizzard took the lead with #71- JD Wiley in second. #83- Ryan Evan made his way toward the front to take second. As the checkered flag was dropped for the last time of the night #99- Dennis Blizzard was the winner with #83- Ryan Evan finishing second, #71- JD Wiley finishing third, #89- Tim Blizzard finishing forth, and #2- Steve Garnto in fifth.

Sharpe Jr. Takes Pure Stock Win

         The first race of the night was the pure stock division. #26- Jimmy Sharpe Jr. was the pole sitter with #27- Eric Baggett. After a couple of restarts the race was single filed putting #26- Jimmy Sharpe Jr. up front followed by #5- Harold Etheridge in second. As the checkered flag was waved for the first time of the night #26- Jimmy Sharpe Jr. led the entire race. #5- Harold Etheridge finished second, #77- Kenny Bryant finished third, #21- Dennis McDaniel finished forth, and #83- Karl Willard finished fifth. Jimmy Sharpe Jr. would like to dedicate his Cochran feature win to the late Sierra Sharpe (sister of Jimmy Sharpe Jr.).

     

        Next was the super street division. #18- Mike Floyd was the pole sitter with #11- John Shepherd on the outside. #18- Mike Floyd took the lead with #03- Chuck Williams in second and #11- John Shepherd in third. #18- Mike Floyd held the lead for the whole race. As the checkered flag flew #18- Mile Floyd was the winner followed by #03- Chuck Williams in second, #11- John Shepherd in third, #6- Jim Brophy in forth, and #83- Eric Burnham in fifth.

 

        Late model was the next division to race. #66- Johnny Tribble was the fastest qualifier and #5- Wiley McDaniel was the second fastest qualifier. #X- Jimmy Sharpe quickly took the lead at the drop of the green flag with #5- Wiley McDaniel in second. #5- Wiley McDaniel then lost second to #66- Johnny Tribble. #X- Jimmy Sharpe (father of Jimmy Sharpe Jr.) was the winner followed by #66- Johnny Tribble in second, #5- Wiley McDaniel in third, #18- Von Edge in forth, and #88- Butch Henry in fifth.

 

        Next was the cadet division. #14- Dustin Miller was the pole sitter and #7- Joe Cartwright was on the outside. #7- Joe Cartwright took the lead but was unable to keep it and lost the lead to #14- Dustin Miller. #5- Karl Willard and #5-Justin Sapp were then in a battle for third. As they took the checkered flag #14- Dustin Miller was the winner with #7- Joe Cartwright in second, #5- Justin Sapp in third, #5- Karl Willard in forth, and #11- Dennis McDaniel in fifth.

 

        Road warrior was the last division of the night to race. #2- Steve Garnto was the pole sitter with #99- Dennis Blizzard on the outside. #23- Josh Odom took the lead followed by #2- Steve Garnto and #89- Tim Blizzard. #2- Steve Garnto, #71- JD Wiley, and #89- Tim Blizzard  were three wide going into turn three in a battle for second. As the checkered flag flew for the last time of the night #23- Josh Odom took the win with #89- Tim Blizzard finishing second, #99- Dennis Blizzard finishing third, #71- JD Wiley finishing forth, and #65- James Tucker finishing fifth.

Chaz Haskins Takes First Ever Win

         The first race of the night was the pure stock division. #77- Kenny Bryant was the pole sitter with #9- Charles Benson on the outside. #9- Charles Benson took the lead with # 77- Kenny Bryant in second and #3- Phil Pittman in third. #3- Phil Pittman then took the lead and began to pull away. As the checkered flag was dropped #3- Phil Pittman was the winner followed by #9- Charles Benson in second, #77- Kenny Bryant in third, #12- Tim Adams in forth, and #58- Steve Jenson in fifth.

        Next was the super street division. #107- Chaz Haskins was the pole sitter with #10- Jim Brophy on the outside. #10- Jim Brophy was the leader until #107- Chaz Haskins took the lead and led the remainder of the race. When the checkered flag was waved #107- Chaz Haskins took his first ever win. #86- Jimmy Grantham finished second, #10- Jim Brophy finished third, and #17- Allen Rowland finished forth.

        Late model was the next division to race. #5- Wiley McDaniel was the fastest qualifier and #66- Max Colson was the second fastest qualifier. #5- Wiley McDaniel took the lead at the drop of the green flag followed by #66- Max Colson in second, #66- Johnny Tribble in third. As the checkered flag flew #5- Wiley McDaniel was the winner for the second week in a row. With #66- Max Colson finishing second, #18- Keith Edge  finishing third, #14- Jim Fordham finishing forth, and #18- Von Edge finishing fifth.

        Next was the cadet division. #5- Justin Sapp was the pole sitter and #7- Joe Cartwright was on the outside. #7- Joe Cartwright took the lead followed by #5- Justin Sapp in second and #7- Arlene Pittman in third. At the drop of the checkered flag #7- Joe Cartwright was the winner, #5- Justin Sapp finished second, #14- Dustin Miller finished third, #7-Arlene Pittman finished forth, and #68- Tim Jenson in fifth.

        The last race of the night was the road warrior division. #02- Tommy Johnson was the pole sitter with #89- Tim Blizzard on the outside. #02- Tommy Johnson took the lead but then lost it to #89- Tim Blizzard. #89- Tim Blizzard was the leader with #99- Dennis Blizzard in second as they both pull a full straightaway from #23- Josh Odom. As the checkered flag flew for the last time of the night #89- Tim Blizzard was the winner with #99- Dennis Blizzard in second, #23- Josh Odom in third, #65- James Tucker in forth, and #00- Jason Patrick in fifth.

At the drop of the green flag #297- Keith Roberts took the lead with #3- Phil Pittman in second and #53- Keith Brooks in third. #77- Kenny Bryant passed #3- Phil Pittman to take over second position but was unable to hold it. As the checkered flag flew #297- Keith Roberts took his 6th win in a row and 12th win of the season. #3- Phil Pittman finished second, #21- Cory Compton finished third, #27- Eric Baggett finished forth, and #53- Keith Brooks finished fifth.

        Next was the cadet division. #7- Joe Cartwright was the pole sitter with #21- Darryl Dunn on the outside. #21- Darryl Dunn took the lead with #7- Joe Cartwright in second and #64- Keith Brook in third. #64- Keith Brooks then took the lead with #11- Josh Barbee in second. As they took the checkered flag #64- Keith Brooks won by a full straightaway with #5- Justin Sapp in second, #8- Shannon Stapleton in third, #7- Joe Cartwright in forth, and #8- Wesley Burkes in fifth.

        Late model was the next division to race. #5- Wiley McDaniel was the fastest qualifier and #17- Stevie Jones was the second fastest qualifier. #5- Wiley McDaniel took the lead followed by #14- Jim Fordham. #5- Wiley McDaniel began to pull away and as the checkered flag waved there was a full straightaway between them. #5- Wiley McDaniel was the winner followed by #14- Jim Fordham in second, #27- Jeff Fortner in third, #17- Jimmy Grantham in forth, and #27- Ben Faircloth in fifth.

        Next was the road warrior division. #23- Josh Odom was the pole sitter and #89- Tim Blizzard was on the outside. #23- Josh Odom took the lead with #89- Tim Blizzard in second and #71- JD Wiley in third. #02- Tommy Johnson took the lead. As the checkered flag was waved #02-Tommy Johnson was the winner followed by #99- Dennis Blizzard in second, #2- Steve Garnto in third, and #89- Tim Blizzard on fifth.

         The last race of the night was the super street division. #11- John Shepherd was the pole sitter with #03- Chuck Williams on the outside. #11- John Shepherd took the lead followed by #86- Jimmy Grantham. Jeff Fortner Takes the Late Model Win

        After a couple of rainout weekend there was a large turn out of about seventy cars. Racecar driver pulled out of the front straightaway to give rides to children- rides were giving to children of all ages even those adults who are still children at heart got to ride in or on their favorite racecar drivers car.

 

On Saturday August 13, 1995, which was ten years ago, Rachel Denise Stone was born in turn two at Cochran Motor Speedway. Rachel celebrated her tenth birthday here at Cochran Motor Speedway where she got to ride around the track with #50v- Montie Vaughn and she also got to drop the green flag to start the first race.     

 

The first race of the night was the super street division. #10- Jim Brophy was the pole sitter wit #86- Jimmy Grantham on the outside.  #86- Jimmy Grantham took the lead coming out of turns four as the green flag dropped with #10- Jim Brophy in second and #18- Mike Floyd in third. As they took the checkered flag #86- Jimmy Grantham was the winner followed by #11- John Shepherd in second, #03- Chuck Williams in third, #107- Chaz Haskins in forth, and #c10- Donald Sanders in fifth.

 

During one of the pure stock heat races #10- Clint Bullock flip on the front straightaway and #21- Cory Compton flipped up on it side but did not completely turnover. #27- Eric Baggett was the pole sitter with #9- Charles Benson on the outside. #27- Eric Baggett took the lead but then lost in to #26- Jimmy Sharpe. #297- Keith Roberts started at the rear and made his way to the front to take the lead and win the race. #26- Jimmy Sharpe finished second, #83- Karl Willard finished third, #27- Eric Baggett finished forth, and #17- Don Guy finished fifth.

 

Cadet was the next division to race. #14- Dustin Miller was the pole sitter with #5- Justin Sapp on the outside. #5- Justin Sapp took the lead at the drop of the green flag followed by #14- Dustin Miller and #7- Joe Cartwright. As the checkered flag flew #7- Joe Cartwright was the winner followed by #5- Justin Sapp in second, #14- Dustin Miller in third, #21- Darryl Dunn in forth, and #64- Keith Brooks in fifth.

 

Next was the road warrior division. #71- JD Wiley was the pole sitter with #99- Dennis Blizzard on the outside. #297- Keith Roberts started on the rear again in this race and again came from the rear to the front to win the race but was then disqualified for having an illegal rear-end. #89- Tim Blizzard was the winner with #71- JD Wiley taking second, #23- Josh Odom taking third, #99- Dennis Blizzard taking forth, and #2- Steve Garnto taking fifth.

   

After being postponed the late model race was the last division to race. #27- Jeff Fortner was the fastest qualifier and #1N- Jordy Nipper was the second fastest qualifier. #27- Jeff Fortner took the lead with #17- Jimmy Grantham in second and #1N- Jordy Nipper in third. As the checkered flag was waved for the last time of the night #27- Jeff Fortner was the winner, #17- Jimmy Grantham was in second, #0- Mike Nasworthy was in third, #1N- Jordy Nipper was in forth, and #50v- Montie Vaughn was in fifth.
